When that wand portion was placed next to a magnet the audible tone went from a steady lower pitch, to a high pitch squeal. Beyond this I am unsure of how to test the unit, and this will be an AS-IS auction. There was corrosion found when we opened the case to change the batteries. We cleaned it up somewhat, but you will want to clean it more. There has also been a crack next to the switch, which has been glued. See pictures for exact cosmetic condition. The case is included, which is pretty dirty. The batteries are not included.
